Ladibel and Joel

Buddies since November 2007.

Ladibel was referred to The Buddy Program because his father is not present in his life and his Mom wanted him to have a positive, male role model in his life.

In the last year and a half their relationship has flourished.  They find doing activities like bowling, The Buddy Program Annual Ski Day and more while together laughing comes very easy for them.

Last June this pair attended a weekend-long activity at Outward Bound with The Buddy Program, where they participated in activities focused on engaging the pairs in teamwork, communication and relationship-building!

Ladibel feels fortunate to have been given the opportunity to connect with a mentor that is now a close friend.

Veronica & Kristin

 Buddies since 2007

Veronica’s mom referred her to The Buddy Program when she was just 7 years old us, as she recognized her daughter’s need for support after her recent divorce.

Little Buddy Veronica was matched with a local couple in 2002 who care very much for her and still keep in touch, but when this couple started their own family, it was time for a new Big Buddy for Veronica. Veronica was matched with Kristen two years ago.

They enjoy attending Buddy Program activities, creating art and reading.  Big Buddy Kristen helped Veronica apply to an exchange program in Japan for the fall of 2009. Through our counseling fund, The Buddy Program has been able to assist Veronica through tough times by providing free counseling sessions for her.

Veronica’s mother often calls The Buddy Program to thank them for giving Veronica all of the special people in her life. The Buddy Program staff and supporters have had the rare opportunity to watch Veronica grow from a child into the young lady she currently is.  Another great example of how The Buddy Program strengthens our community by guiding and inspiring youth.

Angelica and Dakota

Buddies since 2006

Little Buddy Angelica was referred to The Buddy Program by Eagle County Social Services, as her home environment and family were experiencing crisis.

Dakota, a Basalt High School student and Big Buddy, has been a caring and fun companion for Angelica for the last three years.  Prior to having a Big Buddy, Angelica was having difficulty completing and turning in her homework.  Now, not only are her assignments handed in more frequently, but her level of comprehension has improved!

Dakota also believes that Angelica’s peer relationships have greatly improved.

Dakota expressed learning a great deal from have a Little Buddy, “I love kids.  The Buddy Program has made me love them even more!”

Big Buddy Dakota is a shining example of a young person learning about giving back at an early age.
