Qualifications:
- High school diploma or other post-secondary degree.
- Minimum age 21
- At least 1 year experience working with teenagers (preferably at-risk youth)
- Enjoyment of the outdoors (camping, hiking, rafting, rock-climbing, etc.)
- Genuine interest in character development of youth
- A valid driver’s license, clean driving record & comfortable driving a 12-passenger van
- Exhibit characteristics of: leadership, responsibility, patient, dependability, maturity, integrity, ability to work independently, and display a positive attitude.
Requirements and Responsibilities:
Prior to the Program
- Attend counselor training session prior to camp. We will provide training on sexual harassment, emergency protocol, child abuse & neglect, meeting camper’s needs, camp traditions, outdoor activities, etc. Additional experience is preferred. CPR/1st Aid training is recommended.
- Attend parent orientation session
- Attend youth orientation ropes course activity
- The Buddy Program will run background checks on each counselor
- Each applicant must complete our volunteer interview
During the Program
- Transport one group of 10 youth to/from Moab, UT*
- Transport one group of 10 youth to/from daily activities. *The Buddy Program provides vehicles for transportation.
- Assume responsibility for the safety of campers (be familiar with Emergency Protocol and report all incidences to the Buddy Program staff.)
- Follow program objectives, rules, policies, and guidelines
- Serve as a positive role model for youth
- Show genuine interest in participants
- Be punctual and organized
- Problem solve through situations and seek assistance when necessary
- Work to ensure all youth are comfortable, safe and included
- Know where participants are at all times
- Assist youth with campsite set up & break down
- Supervise bedtime & wake-up process
- Assist with meal preparation & clean-up
- Participate enthusiastically in all teambuilding, outdoor & Rap Session activities
- Manage youth behavioral issues throughout all activities
- Complete a brief daily summary for each participant in your assigned group
- Perform other duties, as assigned

Camp Dates--June 9-13; Parent Orientation Date—April 17th or 18th, 5:30-7:30 PM; Youth Orientation Activity: May 26th 9am-3pm
